Fire at abandoned building near New Annan forces hours-long road closure

A fire at an abandoned building forced the closure of a portion of one of Prince Edward Island's main highways for several hours Tuesday.

A fire at an abandoned building forced the closure of a portion of one of Prince Edward Island's main highways for several hours Tuesday. 

The blaze in New Annan broke out Tuesday just before 3 p.m., according to the P.E.I. RCMP. 

Police said the structure was surrounded with overgrown brush and outbuildings, but that fire crews were eventually able to contain the flames. 

A portion of Route 2 near New Annan was closed from around 4 p.m. until just before 7 p.m.
