RCMP on Prince Edward Island are asking for the public's help in solving a series of suspicious fires in the western part of the province.

A news release from the force issued Wednesday said the first incident happened on June 24. Emergency crews responded to a fire at an abandoned house on Route 2 in New Annan at 2:30 p.m. that day.

Just a week later, on July 1 at 3 p.m., a second fire was reported at the same location.

Earlier on Canada Day, at 9:15 a.m., emergency crews had been called to a fire at another abandoned home, this time in Clermont.

Since June 24, there have been three suspicious fires in Prince County, with the RCMP saying that all involved abandoned houses. As CBC's Stacey Janzer reports, police are asking for the public's help to find answers.

"Fires at abandoned homes are still a serious risk. Fire has potential to harm people, destroy other property and it ties up first responders," Cpl. Gavin Moore, the P.E.I. RCMP's media relations officer, was quoted as saying in the news release.

Anyone with information about the fires is being asked to contact the Prince District RCMP.
