P.E.I.'s Official Opposition says replacing the seniors home in Montague should be a bigger priority than building a new liquor store.

Steven Myers, PC MLA for Georgetown-St. Peters, is again raising concerns about delays in replacing Riverview Manor in Montague. The manor is nearly 50 years old and Myers said it's been in bad shape for a long time.

"It's completely unnecessary to have people in their golden years in a facility that's run down and leaking and ceiling tiles are falling in," he said. "I'm not sure why government doesn't choose to spend that money there."

Government had announced the manor was to be built this year, but earlier this fall, construction was delayed until 2017.

The P.E.I. Liquor Commission, a provincial Crown corporation, announced last week construction on a new liquor store in Montague will begin soon and is expected to be open by June.
