The City of Regina is spraying elm trees, starting today, in an effort to curb Dutch Elm Disease.

The product being used, Dursban, will be applied using a low pressure spray. Workers will spray the bottom of a tree trunk and the droplets dry within about 30 minutes.

Residents in the area of the spraying will be notified.

During spraying, the city recommends residents close their windows and keep family and pets away from the spraying  crews.

The program is expected to be done by mid-October.

Dursban is an insecticide that kills bark beetles which spread Dutch Elm disease.
