Saskatchewan Roughriders Chris Jones talks day before CFL draft
The team has the number one pick
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have the first overall pick in Tuesday's CFL draft. General manager and head coach Chris Jones said he's considering his options.
"We've talked to multiple teams. So there's been people that have tried to buy the pick and there's people that are trying to switch spots in the first," Jones said. "We're just going to look at the best offer and we'll make the best decision for us."
The Riders may look to add a pick in the second round if they move the first pick. Due to trades, the team won't pick until late in the third round at 24th overall. If they keep the first pick, Jones said he has not narrowed it down to one player.
"We don't have one guy in mind. We've got like three to four guys that we really like that we feel like that any of those four can help us," he said.
This year the Riders have the first pick by virtue of having the worst record in the 2015-16 season.
Riders history drafting first
The Roughriders have chosen first four times in their history.
- 2000 - Tyson St. James (DL).
- 2001 - Scott Schultz (DL).
- 2010 - Shomari Williams (LB).
- 2012 - Ben Heenan (OL).
Saskatchewan products Heenan and Schultz played their entire CFL careers with the Roughriders. Schultz won a Grey Cup in 2007, meanwhile Heenan won in 2013.
The Riders have seven of the 70 picks in the draft. It gets underway at 5 p.m. CST
