City of Greater Sudbury to only accept compostable yard waste bags
Beginning July 1, only compostable paper bags and securely tied bundles will be accepted
People in Sudbury will soon have to ensure yard waste and trimmings are left in compostable paper bags for collection.
The City of Greater Sudbury said it is changing to a more environmentally responsible and cost-efficient residential leaf and yard trimmings collection policy.
Beginning July 1, only compostable paper bags and securely tied bundles will be accepted for residential curbside collection of leaf and yard trimmings, the city said.
Plastic bags will no longer be permitted.
The compostable paper bags decompose along with the leaf and yard trimmings, eliminating the de-bagging process, and preventing the plastic bags from ending up in the landfill, the city said.
