People in the city of Kenora, Ont., are struggling to come to terms with the death of 16-year old Delaine Copenace.

Her remains were found in Lake of the Woods near Water Street Tuesday morning, three weeks after she was first reported missing.

Extensive searches had been done around the Kenora area, and as far away as Winnipeg, where she had friends and family.

Brian Ostaff, who manages the Subway restaurant in Kenora, told CBC News he knows Delaine's sister and had been helping the family by posting pictures of Delaine inside the restaurant.

"There's posters all over the store, posters all over around town and it was sad today because her sister came in here, and she asked us to take down the sign and that was pretty sad," he said.

Ostaff said the whole community is devastated.

"I heard she was a really nice girl … heard she was quiet and stuck to herself and what not," he said.

"So it was kind of a shock to hear that she went missing … it's pretty heartbreaking."

Ontario Provincial Police say there is an on-going investigation and won't say whether foul play is suspected.

Copenace was reported missing to the OPP on Feb. 28 and had been the subject of an active missing person investigation.
