Durham police say a 19-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries after losing control of his SUV and colliding with a tractor-trailer on Friday.

Police said the crash happened around 8 a.m. on Lakeridge Road, south of Peleshok Drive — a straight and fairly rural road.

Police said the man lost control of the Honda CR-V he was driving and veered into the path of the northbound truck.

"The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles," police said in a news release.

The young man was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre. The truck driver was uninjured.

Durham police said the crash remains under investigation and are asking anyone who might have information or dashcam footage to contact them.
