9 injured after stolen BMW collides with TTC bus in North York
Roads in the area were closed for several hours but have since reopened
Nine people have been taken to hospital, including two with life-threatening injuries, after a stolen BMW collided with a TTC bus in North York early Monday, Toronto police said.
The incident happened at about 1:50 a.m. near Bathurst Street and Wilson Avenue.
Two vehicles, a white BMW X6 and a black SUV, were travelling at high speed westbound on Wilson Ave., duty senior officer Brian Maslowski said on Monday morning.
As they approached the intersection at Bathurst Street, the black SUV made it through, but the BMW collided with the driver's side of a TTC bus that was travelling southbound.
The BMW struck the bus so forcefully that the bus spun around to face northbound, Maslowski said.
Four people were in the BMW, including the two who sustained life-threatening injuries. A man was driving the BMW, police said in a news release Monday. Police have confirmed that two out of the four people in the BMW were out on bail at the time of the crash.
Five people were on the bus, including the driver, and were taken to hospital with minor injuries, Maslowski said.
One person, a female, was ejected from the bus, he said.

When officers arrived on scene, the BMW was on fire, Maslowksi said. They put out the fire and extricated two of the occupants. Toronto Fire extricated the other two occupants.
"Its a horrific scene, quite frankly," he said.
Anyone who saw the BMW and black SUV travelling in the area at the time of the crash are asked to contact investigators.
Police do not know the make or model of the black SUV.
Roads in the area were closed for several hours but have since reopened.
"Safety of our customers and employees is always our paramount concern and, as always, we are assisting [Toronto police] in their investigation," officials said.
Police are asking anyone with security or dashcam footage of the area or incident to contact investigators.
