Victim identified in fatal Etobicoke motel stabbing

Toronto police have identified the victim of a fatal stabbing at a motel in Etobicoke over the weekend as 50-year-old Eligio Martinez Gomez.

Toronto police have identified the victim of a fatal stabbing at a motel in Etobicoke over the weekend as 50-year-old Eligio Martinez Gomez.

Investigators say the stabbing happened in a motel room in the area of The Queensway and Royal York Road on Sunday. Officers were called to the scene at about 9:20 a.m.

In a news release, police allege a 57-year-old man and Gomez were in a motel room together when the man allegedly stabbed him.

Paramedics rushed Gomez to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police arrested the man at the scene. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder.

Gomez's death marks Toronto's 11th homicide of the year.
