Police say six people have been arrested after a home invasion investigation in Hillside that has prompted the closure of parts of Highway 11 and a shelter in place advisory for the area.

Ontario Provincial Police said in a release that officers received reports of an armed home invasion at a private residence in the Hillside area, east of Huntsville, just before 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The OPP said the investigation extended beyond the original location, prompting the closure of Highway 11 in both directions between Severn River Road and Coopers Falls Road, and between Canning Road and Graham Road.

The highway has fully reopened.

Earlier Tuesday, the OPP had also issued a public safety advisory on social media, asking people to avoid the area. Commuters in the closure area were told to stay in their vehicles and lock their doors.

Police say specialized units were deployed to the area, and aviation services assisted with aerial support during the investigation.

Six people have been taken into custody, but police believe additional suspects remain at large, along with a silver Honda CRV with an Ontario plate of CZFE 895, the OPP said.

OPP is asking the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.
