Two people face criminal charges in connection with the 2023 disappearance of a man in New Tecumseth, Ont., which police are now deeming a homicide.

On July 17, 2023, police began investigating after 34-year-old Derek Perry was reported missing, the Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Thursday.

After two years of investigation, police deemed the case a homicide. This week, they arrested two New Tecumseth residents — a 30-year-old man and 36-year-old woman.

The man has been charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a dead body. The woman is also charged with indignity to a dead body, as well as accessory after the fact to murder.

Both remain in custody as they await a bail hearing in Barrie, police said.
