Ontario's two air ambulances serving Toronto are temporarily out of service for maintenance, according to the provincial service.

Ornge, which operates the service, said Thursday one of the air ambulances will be unserviceable for 48 hours, while a second serving the city will be out of commission until July 18.

The service says it will activate contingency plans, including dispatching helicopters from other bases as well as additional Ornge land ambulance resources in the city.

It also says it will keep regular contact with the helicopter manufacturer to ensure parts are delivered and installed on time to avoid any delays.

"We remain committed to ensuring full helicopter air ambulance service as soon as possible," the agency said in an emailed statement.

Ornge provides air ambulance coverage to Sudbury, Toronto, London and Ottawa.
