Justin Trudeau meets newly named Toronto Zoo panda cubs Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue
Cubs' new names translate to Canadian Hope and Canadian Joy
The Toronto Zoo has revealed the names of the first giant pandas born in Canada: Jia Panpan (meaning Canadian Hope) is the male cub, and his sister is Jia Yueyue (Canadian Joy).

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne were among guests getting the first glimpse of the cubs, who have been held in a special maternity area since their birth last October.

—@Kathleen_WynneThe zoo set up a special committee to compile possible names for the pandas, and then people were able to go online to vote for their favourites from the short list.
The cubs marked their 100th day in January and are now considered to have survived their infancy.
Their mother, Er Shun, is on loan from China.
She and a male panda named Da Mao arrived in 2013.
