Toronto city byelection for Don Valley West set for Nov. 4

Dates have been set for a Toronto city byelection in Ward 15, Don Valley West, which has been unrepresented since the death of its former councillor in May.

Dates have been set for a Toronto city byelection in Ward 15, Don Valley West, which has been unrepresented since the death of its former councillor in May.

The byelection is scheduled for Nov. 4, with polls open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to a city news release. Advance voting will be open on Oct. 27 and 28.

The seat has been empty since May 17, after the death of Coun. Jaye Robinson. Robinson represented the ward from 2010 until her death.

City council officially declared the seat vacant on June 26.

Nominations open July 22 at 8:30 a.m. and close Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. 

Potential candidates cannot incur campaign expenses or accept campaign contributions before filing nomination papers with the city clerk, Tuesday's release said. 

More information about the byelection, including details on voting by mail, will be made available on the Toronto Elections website in the coming weeks and months, according to the release.

Ward 15 is bordered by Yonge Street to the west and Leslie Street to the east. The ward is bordered by Highway 401 to the north, with its southern border running roughly along the Don River, just above the Evergreen Brickworks.
