SIU investigating after man in Chatham suffers severe burns

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit is examining an incident that left a man in Chatham suffering from severe burns to a "significant portion of his body."

Chatham-Kent police were called to assist a man in distress at a home near St. Clair Street and McNaughton Avenue around 1:30 a.m. on July 1, according to an SIU media release.

Shortly after police arrived, the man was burned. The 43-year-old was transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to a trauma centre in Toronto.

The SIU has assigned four investigators and two forensic investigators to the case. Investigators have identified two CKPS officers involved as well as two witness officers.
