Inmate dies at Windsor's South West Detention Centre

An inmate has died at the South West Detention Centre, Windsor police and government officials said Tuesday.

The death occurred on Monday, according to a spokesperson for the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General.

Neither the ministry nor the Windsor Police Service would provide further details but both said investigations are underway.

"Please note, when an inmate passes away while in custody there are multiple investigations that occur, including by the coroner's office and police," the ministry told CBC in an email.
