Teen dies after police believe she jumped into Thames River in Chatham with another girl

Police believe she jumped into the water from the Third Street Bridge — in the city’s downtown — along with a 15-year-old girl during the early morning hours on Monday.

The incident isn't considered suspicious at this time, according to authorities

The body of a 17-year-old girl has been recovered from the Thames River in Chatham.

Police believe she jumped into the water from the Third Street Bridge — in the city's downtown — along with a 15-year-old girl during the early morning hours on Monday.

However, the 17-year-old did not surface, they said.

Her body was recovered later in the day.

"At this time the incident is not considered suspicious." Chatham-Kent police said in an online statement.

The 15-year-old girl was safely assisted from the water by first responders.
