The Wheatley branch of the Chatham-Kent Pubic Library is set to reopen on Talbot Street West Saturday after being forced to close on June 26 when first responders found hydrogen sulfide gas bubbling up behind the building.

Crews have since plugged a well discovered behind the building, the municipality said in a news release.

The customer service drop box will again be available once the library reopens, officials said.

However there will be no parking behind the library for two more weeks as active monitors will remain around the well during that time.

No gas was ever detected inside the library, officials said.

The building was closed out of an abundance of caution.

The site, they said, will be added to the monthly soil gas surveys going forward.
