Officials have closed Holiday Beach due to unsafe levels of E.coli in the water, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit said in a notice issued Friday.

Officials have also posted signs at Cedar Beach and Colchester Beach advising against swimming in the water due to E.coli counts over 200 coliform units per 100 millilitres.

Counts at Holiday Beach exceeded 1,000 in a July 9 water sample, the health unit said in its notice.

It had issued four previous weekly warnings about E.coli levels in the water at the beach since the beginning of June.
