Much of southwestern Ontario is in for another sweltering weekend, Environment Canada warns.

The weather agency issued a heat warning for the region beginning Saturday and lasting into Sunday evening. It's in place for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and Sarnia, Petrolia and western Lambton County.

Temperatures are expected to reach between 31 C and 33 C, which will feel like 40 with the humidity. Overnight temperatures are not expected to provide much relief, staying between 21 C and 25 C.

"Take action to protect yourself and others – extreme heat can affect everyone's health," Environment Canada said in its warning.

"Determine if you or others around you are at greater risk of heat illness. Check on older adults, those living alone and other at-risk people in-person or on the phone multiple times a day."

Environment Canada warns people to watch for the signs of heat exhaustion, including headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst and intense fatigue.

People should drink water often, even before they feel thirsty; close blinds and shades, and open windows if it's cooler outside than inside. Residents with air conditioning should use it, or a fan, and spend time in the coolest part of their living space. If your living space is warm, people should visit a cooling centre or a space like a library or community centre.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and Chatham-Kent Public Health have also cautioned residents to heed the heat warning.
