Kevin Smith's Canadian-set Tusk to screen at TIFF 2014
Smith's set-in-Canada horror one of 40 films announced Tuesday by TIFF programmers
Kevin Smith's set-in-Canada horror comedy Tusk has been selected to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival – just one of about 40 new titles announced Tuesday by TIFF programmers.
Tusk – which will screen as part of TIFF's popular horror-driven Midnight Madness program – stars Justin Long as a podcaster who travels to rural Canada while chasing a story, but instead, finds himself facing a terrifying transformation.
Other Midnight Madness notables include Tokyo Tribe by Japanese director and 2013 People's Choice Award-winner Sion Sono and What We Do in the Shadows, a vampire flick from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Taika Waititi and Flight of the Conchords comedian Jemaine Clement.
Winterbottom film makes TIFF's Masters program
Festival organizers announced a slate of other films to premiere in their Masters program, including Michael Winterbottom's The Face of an Angel. The crime story, starring Daniel Brühl and Kate Beckinsale, is inspired by the Amanda Knox murder trial in Italy.
Jean-Luc Goddard's first 3D feature Goodbye to Language will also screen as part of the Masters program. The experimental drama shared the jury prize with Montréal filmmaker Xavier Dolan’s Mommy at Cannes.
More titles will be announced throughout the summer, with the Canadian lineup due to be released at a news conference on Aug. 6.
The 2014 Toronto International Film Festival runs Sept. 4 to 14.
