Maze Runner release delayed after actor's on-set injuries
Filming in B.C. was halted after lead actor Dylan O'Brien suffered injuries mid-March
The release of Maze Runner: The Death Cure will be delayed by almost a year to allow lead actor Dylan O'Brien time to recover from injuries he got while filming the latest installment of the dystopian sci-fi franchise.
20th Century Fox announced Friday a new release date for the movie: Jan. 12, 2018, according to Deadline and Variety. It was supposed to come out Feb. 17, 2017.
Principal photography on the film was pushed back twice to allow star Dylan O'Brien more time to recover from injuries he suffered during a shoot in mid-March. Fox has still not said when production will resume.
According to reports, O'Brien was hit by a car, received multiple injuries on set and was taken to a Vancouver hospital for treatment.
O'Brien stars in the dystopian sci-fi franchise based on author James Dashner's novels. He was filming the third and final installment in the series near Kamloops when he was injured.
O'Brien is also known for his role on TV's Teen Wolf series.
