Will 'megatowers' at Vancouver's Commercial-Broadway station help solve the housing crisis?
On Tuesday night, Vancouver city council voted to approve a long-debated series of rental towers on the site of a Safeway supermarket. Peter Waldkirch, who played an accordion in city council to encourage the site's rezoning, argues that Vancouver is suffering from a dire shortage of rental units, and says the 1,000 housing units across the three towers would help address that. However, the Vancouver Tenants Union says that adding more unaffordable housing units would lead to gentrification in the area.
