Nunavut Tunngavik says Inuit interests will be protected under Bill C-5
Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI) says it's confident the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement will protect Inuit interests under the new federal Bill C-5. The legislation aims to speed up projects of national interest, such as mines and ports, and it has sparked concerns that the government would be able to override treaty rights and environmental assessments. NTI's vice president believes the Nunavut Agreement has the power to prevent Ottawa from doing that.
