When asked by a reporter for his response to Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s calls for a rate cut, Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem said the decision to hold the rate at 2.75 per cent was not a political one, and that the bank will make sure that a tariff problem ‘does not become an inflation problem.’
