Think running a marathon is tough? Try finishing one with a broken leg
If you're a runner, you know the feeling when you've hit the "wall" -- a pain in the side, a nagging muscle or joint -- and that's when you can choose to stop or continue to run through the pain. This past weekend, Krista DuChene, a runner from Brantford, Ontario, hit a "wall" that would topple most -- and still managed to place third while defending her title at the Canadian Half-Marathon Championships in Montreal.
"During the race, at about 16k is when I started to feel some pain and fatigue," Ms. DuChene tells Carol. "With half a kilometre to go, it was basically your worst nightmare. It was like I lost a limb."
At that point, the pain was unbearable. Somehow, she managed to cross the finish line. And that pain she'd been struggling through? It turns out she'd been running with a broken leg.
