"I really love celebrating the senses," Inuk performer Tanya Tagaq explained to Candy Palmater. Tanya joined Candy on the waterfront at the 2016 CBC Music Festival to discuss the meaning of music, motherhood and Indigenous culture.

Tanya said she could see herself as a massage therapist, a painter or a sculptor, someone who works with their hands. But right now, music is the immediate priority.

"Music is like a default, because it's not attached to the visual. Improvisation is absolutely immediate and I love that," Tanya said.

In her conversation with Candy, Tanya also reflects on what it's like to be a mother and having her daughters join the band on the road.
