Looking back on those early years with Prince, Dickerson says at the time it's hard to put it all in perspective.
"It feels like Forest Gump — like, how did I get here?"
On Prince as a bandmate and friend, Dickerson remembers when Prince went from man to cultural phenom.
"I have the pleasure of being involved in probably the greatest transitional period in his life and career," Dickerson tells Shad, "where it went from the young guy — kid, really — who just played music because that's who he was, that was what drove him, that was his essence. From that, to being Prince the brand."
