Folk-rocker Del Barber makes one thing clear with his new record: he's here to represent Western Canada with pride.

The record, appropriately titled Prairieography, is described as "a mix of heavy grooves and rustic roots," perfectly capturing the Manitoba landscape Barber grew up in.

The singer-songwriter joins us live in Studio Q today for a feature interview and performances from the record.

Creating prairie parables

Barber is more interested in telling honest stories than in being a rock star:

"I try my best not to use the guitar and the stage as a place to sort of air out my egotistical tendencies as a young white dude. I think I have more to say and we have more to say through paying attention to the stories and the people who kind of live in moments of tension."

"That's sort of the model for me - trying to turn these moments in the Canadian plains into Prairie parables and be able to make social commentary and soft political statements through them."
