Best of Q: Baz Luhrmann on Gatsby and great adaptations
Acclaimed director Baz Luhrmann on his creative vision for the Great Gatsby.
Baz Luhrmann is known for his vibrant, highly stylized films like Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge, and for reinterpreting classic stories for a modern audience.
His latest film, The Great Gatsby, blends F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel about the failure of the American dream with a Jay Z-produced soundtrack, and sees the director reunite with leading man Leonardo DiCaprio.
Luhrmann joins guest host Kevin Sylvester to talk about his creative vision for the film, to defends his bold, "lurid-coloured" adaptation, and to discuss the over-the-top, ostentatious Gatsby.
The original interview aired on August 23, 2013
