Alouettes sign former NFL receiver Porter
Receiver Jerry Porter, who helped the Oakland Raiders reach the Super Bowl in 2002, signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Alouettes on Tuesday.
The move reunites Porter with Montreal head coach Marc Trestman, who was a coach with the Raiders in 2002.
Porter becomes the second high profile former NFL player to sign with Montreal in as many weeks. Tailback Ahman Green, the career rushing leader for the Super Bowl-champion Green Bay Packers, joined the CFL club last week.
The six-foot-two, 220-pound Porter was a 2000 second-round draft pick by Oakland and spent eight seasons with the Raiders and one with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Alouettes also re-signed tailback Brandon Whitaker and receiver- kick returner Rashaud Slaughter to two-year deals.
