Canadian '40s-style transformation: Tons of thick blankets, no TV, and an icebox

Duration 0:58
One family undergoes a complete life and home transformation, taking them through six decades of Canadian winter starting with the 1940s.

The Carlson family travel back in time to the winter of the 1940s. After a full wardrobe and home transformation, they'll use their trusty forties manual to guide them through this unfamiliar decade.

Wartime rationing puts Melanie in the hot seat as she tries to keep her family fed with unfamiliar cuts of meat, while Dave tackles constant outdoor chores as he strives to keep one step ahead of blustery winter weather. Lauren, Alex and Chelsey get a reality check of what life is like for teens in the tech-free '40s, and it's heavy on domestic duties.

The decade ends on a high note with a family toboggan ride and hot chocolate break.
