Two women arrested in nightclub assault that sends one woman to hospital

Witnesses say they saw paramedics attempting to resuscitate the young woman, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Two women have been arrested after a 28-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries following an alleged assault outside a nightclub in downtown Vancouver early Thursday morning.

The attack happened outside the Caprice Nightclub at Granville Street and Smithe Street at around 2 a.m. PT.

Police said the alleged assault occurred outside after a brief altercation inside the club between the victim and two women. The two suspects fled the scene.

About half an hour later. police say they arrested two women as they got out of a taxi near Hastings and Abbott Street.

Garrison Johnson was outside with some friends and says he witnessed the assault. He said the victim was on the ground and seemed to be unconscious when another woman started kicking her in the head.

"Got her right in the temple with a kick to her temple," said Johnson. "She was knocked out for about two minutes … then it went on to five minutes."

"I went right to her side and kneeled down … bouncer told me to step off, so I stepped off," he said.

Johnson said he saw paramedics attempting to resuscitate the young woman before she was rushed to hospital.

Another witness said he saw the alleged aggressor run southbound on Granville Street after leaving the victim in front of the club.

Police said the victim is in hospital in grave condition.

The investigation is continuing.
