RCMP are investigating the suspicious deaths of two people following a house fire in northern Alberta on Wednesday.

Police were called to a structure fire at a residence on Township Road 610 in Elizabeth Métis Settlement, about 300 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.

A deceased resident of the home was removed from the property by emergency responders, who also discovered the remains of a second person once the fire was extinguished, police said Friday.

The remains of both people were taken to the chief medical examiner's office in Edmonton to help positively identify the victims.
