A 47-year-old man is dead, police said, after being struck Friday by a transport truck on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, in Hamilton, referred to as the Linc.

According to Hamilton Police Service (HPS), the man pulled over his car, a 2015 Toyota Yaris, on the eastbound shoulder of the highway near Garth Street.

When the man stepped out, police said he was struck by the transport truck.

"Hamilton emergency crews responded to the scene but the male was pronounced deceased," police said in a news release Saturday.

Hamilton police and a commercial motor vehicle inspector are investigating, HPS said, and added the driver of the truck stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
