Man, 47, charged in St. Catharines homicide

Niagara Regional Police have charged a 47-year-old St. Catharines man following a double-shooting on Friday that left one man dead.

At approximately 1:40 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to a call in the area of Division Street and Riordon Street in St. Catharines, following reports of gunshots.

When officers arrived, they located two men with gunshot wounds. Police say one was transported to a local hospital where they died. The other was taken to an out-of-region hospital with life-threatening injuries.

At the time, police said the shooting was a targeted incident.

At approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday, detectives arrested the 47-year-old after several hours of negotiations at a home on Churchill Street, police said in a Saturday news release.

Police say he has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Sunday.

Police say they are searching for another suspect in relation to this incident. He's described as a white male, approximately 35-40 years old with a thin build.  He has brown, wavy hair and a scruffy goatee. At the time of the shooting he was wearing a dark, hooded bomber (waist length) style jacket,  jeans and dark running shoes, police say.
