Regional police seek suspect following fatal shooting in Cambridge
Police say the shooting that killed a 40-year old man is believed to have been targeted
A man has died and another is seriously injured after a shooting in Cambridge on Wednesday evening.
Regional police say they were called to the area of Lena Crescent and Pamela Lane around 8:35 p.m., after receiving reports of shots fired.
When they arrived, officers found two men both suffering from gunshot wounds.
A media briefing was held in the area Thursday morning for an update.
Insp. Kyle Lambert is with the criminal investigations unit of the Waterloo Regional Police Service.
"A 40-year-old male was tended to by paramedics, fire and police," Lambert said.
"Life saving measures were attempted but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased."
Police say another victim, a 31-year-old-man from Cambridge, was also found with a gunshot wound and transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Though unable to confirm the relationship between the men, police say they knew one another.
The shooting is believed to have been targeted and the suspect fled the area.
"As a result, members of our Major Crime Unit, our General Investigation Unit and Forensic Identification Unit will be continuing the investigation," said Lambert.
There will be an increased police presence in the area as investigators canvass the neighbourhood for witnesses.
"We're appealing for members of the public who have information, video evidence, whatever the case may be, to contact our police service or contact Crime Stoppers," Lambert said.
Previous area shooting
In June 2023, regional police were called to the area of Lena Crescent and Franklin Boulevard for another shooting.
In that instance, there was damage to a vehicle and a home. Police said three or four male suspects were involved and ran away from the area.
"Obviously, any type of instance that we have in and around this area is something that we look at to see if there's any type of connection to any other type of crime," Lambert said on Thursday.
He added this is the fourth homicide this year within the region, the third by gunfire.
