A winter weather travel advisory has been issued for Waterloo region, Guelph and Wellington County for Monday afternoon.

"A fast-moving cold front will sweep through this afternoon, bringing heavy snow, gusty winds and falling temperatures," Environment Canada says in the advisory.

"Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop."

Brief bursts of heavy snow are expected, with about two centimetres falling in the area.

The forecast says rain and flurries could start just after 1 p.m. ET. The temperature is expected to hit a high of 7 C by 4 p.m., then drop to below freezing overnight. 

Tuesday will start out at –7 C at 7 a.m., with an expected high of –2 C, but the wind chill will make it feel more like –16 C in the morning and –9 C in the afternoon.

A mix of sun and cloud and a high of 4 C are in the forecast for Wednesday.
