A body was found Thursday morning at a Winnipeg recycling depot.

Police were called around 7:50 a.m. to the GFL material recovery facility in St. Boniface Industrial Park on Mazenod Road.

The identity of the body, which police believe is a man, is still pending identification, police said in a sparse news release.

"The investigation is just getting underway, updates to follow when information becomes available," the release said.

As a result of the investigation, recycling collection by the City of Winnipeg's contractor has been suspended, the city said in a news release.

Garbage collection is not impacted.

Winnipeggers who have recycling collection on Thursdays and haven't yet had it picked up should put their bins out again on Saturday morning before 7 a.m., the news release says. This also applies to commercial customers.

The service disruption is not expected to impact Friday collection.
