Six people have been charged in connection with the killing of a Saskatchewan man who was found dead in a back lane in Winnipeg's Daniel McIntyre neighbourhood late last month, police say.

The body of Bronson Emery Dale Kequahtooway, 30, from Zagime Anishinabek First Nation — about 150 kilometres east of Regina — was discovered in a back lane on Wellington Avenue, between Home and Arlington streets on the morning of March 28, Winnipeg police previously said.

Officers who were called to the area found the body of Kequahtooway, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two residents in the neighbourhood, including one who called 911, told CBC they saw what they believe was a man's body in a garbage bin that morning.

Kequahtooway was living in Winnipeg at the time of his death.

In an update Wednesday, police said six people were arrested in connection with his death over a span of just over two weeks.

The first were two men, ages 20 and 43, and a 28-year-old woman, who were arrested after Winnipeg homicide investigators and a tactical support team carried out a warrant at Simcoe Street home on March 29. All three were charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

On April 3, another 28-year-old woman was arrested at a home on Agnes Street. She is also charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Police later arrested Eric Matthew Morrissette, 39, and Frederick Francis Mathias Baker, 28, both of whom are charged with second-degree murder.

Morrissette was arrested on April 9 at home on McDermot Avenue in Winnipeg by homicide investigators, with the help of members of the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit — a multi-agency unit that targets alleged violent offenders.

He is also charged with two counts of firearm possession contrary to a probation order, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Baker, who was in custody on an unrelated matter, was arrested at Milner Ridge Correctional Centre on Monday. In addition to the second-degree murder charge, he also faces a firearm possession charge.

Winnipeg police are asking anyone with information on Kequahtooway's killing to contact the homicide unit at 204-986-6508, or make an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers by calling 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org
