Winnipeg police are releasing new details in connection with the death of a man struck in an early morning hit and run on a downtown road a year ago.

Emergency crews went to Mayfair Avenue and Queen Elizabeth Way, just across the Assiniboine River from The Forks, at around 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 8, 2024.

A man was walking across Main Street — on a small stretch also known as Queen Elizabeth Way — when he fell, police previously said.

He was hit by a southbound vehicle as he was trying to get up, police said. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

Police identified the victim of the crash as 26-year-old Tanner Barry Keeper in a Friday news release.

Officers have also obtained video footage of the incident and believe the car involved in the incident was a dark-colour early 2000s Buick LeSabre.

Police said they're releasing the new details on the crash in an effort to move the investigation forward and provide some closure to Keeper's family.

Their hope is that information from the public might help them identify the car or the driver involved in the collision, Friday's release said.
