Man dies after hit-and-run on Main Street in Winnipeg
Traffic blocked along southbound lanes of Main between Broadway and Mayfair

A man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle that then left the scene near Main Street and Mayfair Avenue in Winnipeg early Thursday.
Emergency crews were called to the area, just across the Assiniboine River from The Forks, around 3:30 a.m.
The man was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he later died, police said in a news release.
Police say the man was walking across Main Street — on a small stretch also known as Queen Elizabeth Way — when he fell. As he was trying to get up, he was hit by a southbound vehicle.
Traffic was blocked for several hours along the southbound lanes of Main Street between Broadway and Mayfair avenues as well as northbound Harkness Avenue at Mayfair, as police placed evidence tags and launched a drone as part of the investigation.

The streets were reopened shortly after 11 a.m. but the investigation is ongoing.
