Make Cory Care: Liberal candidate 'inspires' Manitoban who doesn't vote

Manitoba Liberal candidate Kyra Wilson wants to Make Cory Care.

Kyra Wilson wants to Make Cory Care.

That's why the Liberal candidate for Fort Richmond invited Cory Alleyne, his infant son Max and his partner Tara Law to meet her on Winnipeg's locally legendary "BDI Bridge" Thursday afternoon.

And she didn't let the raw, cold wind of a short spring storm stop her.

"It was a little chilly. We were concerned about Max being cold. But I got a really good vibe from them."

Alleyne, 37, is a lifelong Manitoban but he's never voted in a provincial election.

This time around, inspired by five-month-old Max—and with help from CBC listeners, the public and politicians—he's looking for a reason to cast a ballot.

Kyra Wilson, he said, gave her one.

"I was very impressed with why Kyra wanted to get into politics."

Especially when she talked about her work with indigenous kids in care.

"She mentioned she mainly wants to help with families, as she came from working with CFS."

In fact, he's so inspired that he's not only thinking about voting...

"Hmmmm, maybe in a few years we'll see a vote for Cory campaign lol!"

For 3 weeks now, 37 year old Cory Alleyne has been getting first hand experience into the democractic process. The life long Manitoban has a full time job, owns a home and pays taxes, but in almost 20 years of being able to, he has yet to cast a single ballot. We've been working to convince him to vote. Today it was Fort Garry - Riverview, liberal candidate Johanna Wood's turn to #makecorycare.

Want to help us convince Cory why he should vote?  And why it would make a difference?

Join the candidates and help us out, Manitoba! Send us your tweets, send us your emails, post a video on Youtube!
And come April 19th, we'll see if we've convinced him to go to the polls and cast a ballot.
