A man in his 30s is recovering after police say he was shot in the back by an unknown male Tuesday night while walking along the riverbank in Winnipeg's North End.

A man is recovering after police say he was shot in the back by an unknown male this week while walking along the riverbank in Winnipeg's North End.

The man in his 30s told police he was walking along the riverbank near St. John's Park toward the Redwood Bridge around 8 p.m. Tuesday when a male he didn't know confronted him and shot him in the back.

The man, who never saw the shooter, ran to Main Street to call police, a news release said Friday.

He was taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police canvassed the area and continue to investigate.
