A man is dead after a shooting in Toronto on Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers responded to a call for a shooting near Davenport Road and Osler Street around 5:05 a.m., Toronto police Acting Insp. Phil Sinclair said. When they arrived, they found a man with gunshot wounds.

Officers performed life-saving measures on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Sinclair said.

The homicide unit is investigating.

The shooting happened in a residential area that is very close to the 11 Division police station, Sinclair said.

He said a house in the area was "possibly hit by a round," but it's too early in the investigation to say how many shots were fired.

The shooting appears to be targeted, he said. There is no confirmed suspect information at this time.

"We certainly will have an increased police presence and make our best efforts to apprehend those responsible for this brazen event this morning," Sinclair said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Toronto police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.

Osler Street is closed between Davenport Road and Pelham Park Gardens, police said.
