Quebec's police watchdog is investigating a police operation that landed a man in his 20s in hospital early Saturday morning. The man was hit by a bullet during an intervention in the Pointe-Saint-Charles neighbourhood.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) say they were called at around 1:40 a.m. to an apartment on Ryde Street, near Charlevoix Street in the Sud-Ouest borough.

During the operation, the man was hit in his upper body, according to the SPVM. They say he was rushed to hospital, but is expected to survive.

No officers were injured.

The investigation has been transferred to the bureau of independent investigations, known by its French acronym BEI.
