Meet Elma Moses, new program manager for CBC North Cree Unit

Elma Moses is putting down the microphone and starting a new role in July. Moses will be the new program manager for the CBC North Cree Unit.

Elma Moses is putting down the microphone and moving to a new role this July. She will be the program manager for the CBC North Cree Unit.

Moses is a member of the Cree nation of Eastmain. She is an experienced leader, scholar and storyteller. This is a return to the role for Moses, who was the Cree unit manager from 2019 to 2020 before leaving for a position with the Cree School Board.

Moses returned to CBC in August 2022 to work as a researcher with the Indigenous Language Archiving project, and in 2024, she took on the role as host of Winschgaoug, a morning radio show that serves the Cree communities of James Bay.

Prior to CBC, Moses served as deputy director general and director of education services at the Cree School Board and has researched and written extensively about Cree language and cultural education.

She holds a PhD from McGill University where she has also taught in the undergraduate education program. Additionally, she taught women's and Indigenous studies, including Cree language courses, at Concordia University.

Moses is also a creative writer and Cree storyteller herself. She is dedicated to the promotion and revitalization of the Cree language. 

Moses starts her new role in July.  You can continue to tune in to Winschgaoug with guest hosts throughout the summer.
