Investigators arrested the suspect on Saturday afternoon. It is believed he acted alone.
The man is a resident of Longueuil, but does not live in the neighbourhood where the homicide occurred.
He will be detained until he appears in court to be formally charged on Monday afternoon. Police say that’s when it’ll be announced what charges the suspect is facing.
Found brutally beaten
Dalcourt, a Longueuil resident, was walking along the bike path when she was attacked.
She was found by a witness around 10 p.m. Tuesday on a dark, quiet stretch of the bike path that runs through Paul Pratt Park in Old Longueuil.
Police say Dalcourt had been savagely beaten. She died in hospital from her injuries a short while later.
Longueuil police have increased security on the bike path since the fatal incident.
Officers are patrolling the area, and lighting has been improved.
Trees that might have obscured lighting have had their branches cut back or been cut down completely.
