Montreal police are investigating the death of a 22-year-old man after he was found unconscious by a passerby in the Ville-Marie borough.

They were alerted at around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils. The passerby had found the victim lying on the ground behind a licensed building on Ontario Street near Bercy Street.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, said Chèvrefils.

"Since the circumstances surrounding this death are currently unknown, this event is considered as a suspicious death," she said.

The scene is currently protected to allow investigators and crime scene technicians to do their work. They're also hoping footage from possible surveillance cameras in the area will help shed light on what happened, said Chèvrefils.
